If you are one of the few people who actually continue to occasionally check in on my blog, thanks for your patience. I am sure you have noticed that the only thing I have been doing on here lately is post book reviews. How incredibly boring for you if you are coming here to see what crazy and silly things that the kids are saying or doing. I am so sorry for not keeping this blog up to date for you.
I found some time recently and decided it was finally time to get pictures off my camera - something I had not done since September. There was something about this last year that made our lives more chaotic than it has been. To all those people who asked what I was going to do with my spare time...HA that was a pretty funny joke! I have had less time to get things done than when I had toddlers running around!
Anyway, a new year has started and perhaps I can find a new routine that will include blogging time and more picture taking...I only took 4 pictures in February and only 2 in March. YIKES what in the world happened? That is so not like me.
For now, I am going back in time...all the way back to May of last year to pick up where I left off. The good news is that we did a lot of things and most of those months (except for Feb and March) I took lots of pictures and videos and will post the good stuff. The bad news is that I have missed blogging all the "My Kids Made Me Laugh" posts. These kids drive me crazy, but they still make me laugh all the time and I am really sad that I have missed more than a year of that. However, all I can do is pick up where I left off and keep going.
So if you are just checking in, there is some new stuff I have posted. Go all the way back to May in the archives :-)

Updating again
Maybe someday I will get my act together and post things as they happen. Until then I am forced to go back a few months and write posts. Let me tell you it was very strange to think back to February to this post
about the terrible snow storms we had! Especially when it was well over 90 today with super duper steam bath humidity blah!
In March I added several posts with lots of videos. I dated them to when they actually occurred, so go over to the blog archives and check out any you have missed. I would love to keep working on these posts, I still have to do April, May & June yikes! ...sigh... but it seems that there are other things to do. gee, I sure wish the laundry and dishes would learn how to get done on their own!

Updating
Still updating... I am still trying to post some updates of things that happened over the last couple of months. You know things like Ben & Carlee's birthday and Sam's birthday! A new job?
Although I am writing this at the end of December, I am posting it as of the beginning of October. This is when I decided to embark on a new adventure. I had been looking for birthday presents for Ben and Carlee and remembered Discovery Toys. A friend had given us some as gifts when Ben & Carlee were born. At that time I had looked at the website and noticed that it was a direct sales company. I had previously sold PartyLite and enjoyed it but never had the time or resources to make it successful.
Anyway, I debated for awhile about starting a Discovery Toys business. Of course needed hubby to be supportive because it would mean he would be here with the kids anytime I needed to be out doing shows. He was supportive and the final decision was made when I realized that the worst case scenario was that if I couldn't make it work I would still end up with some great toys at a reasonable price.
I joined Discovery Toys early in October and have been quite busy with it ever since.
I have been really enjoying it and obviously love the toys. My new goal in life is to never buy battery operated toys for my kids again! Unfortunately I had already purchased the boys some toys with batteries for Christmas, but those are the last!
I have learned so much about the educational aspects of Discovery Toys and how they encourage learning. I have decided that a kid's job is to play, so they should be learning while they play. It is so cool that Discovery Toys are designed for exactly that purpose. My hope and prayer is that my new focus is setting my kids up for future educational success!
The best part about being a Discovery Toys consultant is that I am being paid to play!! Unfortunately there are some silly cross-border rules that state I cannot sell into Canada. But I hope that all my Canadian friends and family will find a DT consultant that can help them become as passionate about these toys as I am becoming!!!
The time I spent setting up my business and doing shows obviously has cut into my blogging time. But I hope that now that I have things set up and running fairly smoothly I can now get back to blogging! I miss blogging and I miss being able to share our lives and our kids with those that we love who are far away. I am trying to balance everything so that I can do all of it, it certainly is a struggle! So, now that I have blogged about my Discovery Toys business, I will leave you with my DT website and say no more about it on here! Well unless it is really important and has something to do with the kids!

Our second date...the night I fell in love with him?
The next day I spent wandering around Balboa Park. Arlan & I had made plans to meet at this fountain. Not a bad picture for being scanned from a throwaway camera photo!
We had not made any plans about what we were going to do and ended up going on a harbor tour. It was on a boat something like this one...

It was a beautiful tour and timed perfectly, just as the sun was setting. And then we did this...
Haha, what is funny is that this huge statue was not there when we met, it was put up when we lived there! The aircraft carrier in the background is now a museum. But the more interesting thing is that the FishMarket where we ate the first night is just to the left of where this picture was taken, and the water is the bay where we went on the Harbor Cruise.
After the cruise we discussed a couple options and then decided to go to the beach. I had been to SanDiego a few times and even been out sailing, but I had never been to the beach! (These next few photos were taken at other times but help to paint the picture) We drove over this bridge to Coronado Island...
We sat on this beach, of course it was dark at the time. The night before had been a full moon and the skies were clear so it was actually quite bright out there.
The first thing I did when we got there was walk into the water. It was the first time I put my feet in the ocean and was very exciting! Although this picture was taken a few days later, it was at the same beach and it reminds me of that night.
This is part of my journal entry from that night. It seems I couldn't have written it better myself - oh wait I did write it LOL... "After talking about a couple options we decided to go to the beach. Now I was really excited, I had never sat on an ocean beach before! We went to Coronado Island and it was absolutely perfect and incredible. The full moon was last night so it was still very bright. It illuminated the waves as they crashed in... I wish I was a better descriptive writer so I could better describe just how breathtaking it was. The smell of the sea air, the amazing sight of the moonlight glowing on the waves and an absolutely great guy hugging & kissing me in the moonlight telling how truly beautiful I am. Even the sand was great, it had no stones in it, just incredibly soft silky sand! We sat and talked alot and the more we talked the more I like him. As we talked and he answered my questions it was like I was checking off all the points of what I am looking for in the man of my dreams! hahaha I literally caught myself saying check, check, check."

So there you have it, that was our second date. And although I did not admit to it at the time, I believe I fell in love with him sitting there on that incredible beach! As we were sitting on the sand I had found a couple shells that had small holes in them. I later put them on strings and gave one to him. He still has it hanging in his truck and I have the other hanging in our van!

The day I met my husband
Once I finally got to SanDiego and the beautiful 85 degree weather I was able to call him and we made plans to meet at Seaport Village. I got there early and wrote out some post cards to friends while I waited. The weather was beautiful and I sat on a bench where I could see the water. That day I wrote in my journal "The aroma of the seawater was nearly intoxicating and somewhat relaxing seeing as I was incredibly nervous"
This photo is of the exact spot where Arlan & I first met!! There is some blonde lady in the picture and when I took it I was slightly annoyed that she was standing there, but now I can say that was exactly where I was standing when we saw each other!!
Now Arlan had some plans for this evening, I was just along for the ride!! I realized at some point in the evening that everything we were doing was based on things that I told him I wanted to do, loved, or had never seen. The very first thing we did was walk across the street to go up to the 40th floor of the Hyatt Hotel where they have a lounge that overlooks the ocean. If you time it just right you can see the sun setting over the ocean. Unfortunatley we were a bit too late and missed it. He knew that I had never seen an ocean sunset! But while we were there he ordered us a shrimp cocktail (one of my all time favorites!)
This picture is a side view of the hotel so you can't see the huge viewing windows on the top floor.
Then we walked through Seaport Village and made our way to the Fish Market. We had the option to dine on the balcony over the water. It was probably still 75 degrees so I jumped at that opportunity!!
So we sat outside overlooking the water which is really beautiful on a clear night, especially with a full moon! We ordered a fish sampler and another shrimp cocktail for appetizers. The shrimp was so good and so huge, I had to eat them in three bites!! Then I ordered a pasta and shrimp dish (delicious!) At the very moment my meal was placed on the table there were fireworks. Literally!!!!
I was in shock and I asked him in utter disbelief "Did you plan this?" He laughed and said no, but wished that he would have thought of it. It was an amazing moment, sitting on the balcony over the water, eating delicious shrimp, with a fireworks show!
After our meal Arlan ordered me cheesecake for dessert, which is my absolute favorite. We then walked along the boardwalk back to Seaport Village where my cousin was going to pick me up. As we walked he actually asked me if he could hold my hand and later if he could have a hug! I was amazed at how special I was being treated and how could I refuse after being spoiled with shrimp, cheesecake AND fireworks!!
Here is part of what I wrote in my journal that night... "I'm still cautious, afterall my intentions were to only meet a nice guy that would take me out and do fun stuff while I'm in SanDiego. But I do hope he is for real, I like him already."

Where I was before I met him...
I didn't have a digital camera back then so some of these pictures are from a throw away camera and then I scanned the actual picture. Not great quality, but you will at least get a better idea!
In the spring of 2001 I moved back to my home town to start my accounting practice and I was living in my Grandparents old farm house 12 miles from town. These winter shots are the only pictures I have with me right now. You will have to imagine how pretty it is in the summer!
From 1/2 mile down the road, the house is one of the buildings the right side. My nearest neighbors were well over a mile away. Many people ask me how I liked living by myself so far away from everything. I loved it!!! Well maybe not the snow LOL
Here is a closer view of the house. I have alot of wonderful memories of time spent with my grandparents in this house. It was fun to live there for awhile and imagine my mom growing up there. Just think, my car is parked is the same place where my dad came to pick her up for dates!!! That is after my Grandma was convinced he was ok. Haha that is another story!
That winter, in the middle of a snow storm I was completely bored and wasting time on the internet. That was when a discovered LavaLife, an online dating site. Well I was bored enough to check it out! I knew that I would eventually have another vacation in California and thought it might be fun to meet someone there (other than my Aunts & Cousins) and maybe see some things in SanDiego that I had yet seen. This truly was my only intention!!
Then one day I came across a guy who called himself "The Ugly Bald Guy". I chuckled at this just had to read his profile. From the picture I decided that he might be bald but he wasn't ugly. In his profile he talked about how he is just a typical guy who leaves the toilet seat up and loves John Wayne movies. I think the next comment was something like "I really hope my friends don't read this!"
After another chuckle I sent him a message and we ended up chatting on MSN messenger for months. Then near the end of 2002 my mom & I planned a trip to California and we finally exchanged phone numbers. I was about to meet a guy I only chatted with on the internet! My mom was not overly impressed. LOL!!
