Please be aware...

This Little Prayer of Mine
by Anthony DeStefano,
Illustrated by Mark Elliot

I had high expectations for this book because of a wonderful book called Little Star by the same author and illustrator.  I was disappointed.  Although the illustrations are beautiful it seemed that the book was somewhat lacking in depth and to quote a friend I showed it to - "watered down religion".  Honestly, my kids come up with much deeper prayers all the time!  Don't underestimate what kids can comprehend, they get much more about God and what He can do for them than what is in this book.

Also be aware the Jesus not even mentioned anywhere in this book!  But the biggest problem I had with this  comes from the last page, and one little line that goes against a major Christian doctrine.  The line is "Please love me God, forevermore."  Why are we asking God to love us? God is love, the entire basis of Christianity is that God loves us so much that he gave us Jesus so we could be saved.  We do not need to ask God to love us, He already does, no matter what!  I do not want my children to ever question that and so I will never read this book to them.

Disclosure: WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group provided me with a complimentary copy of this book as part of their BloggingForBooks.org book review program.

You are wonderful with words!
We made it home! Got some catching up to do around here. Have your babies started school yet? How's it going? How did you fair Irene with all your trees? We had 2 trees damaged, but nothing we can't take care of in a weekend. We'll need to catch up soon!
