Scott's Hamburger Soup

I got this recipe from my brother (via my mom lol), but I have no idea where he got the recipe from. Knowing my brother it likely has some crazy stroy attached to it. I must remember to ask him! Anyways, this is the tastiest soup I have ever had and so easy to make. Love Love Love it!!! And can't beleive I haven't posted it before.

Brown together, then drain:
2 lbs Hamburger or ground venison
1 medium onion

Then combine with the following ingredients in a large pot:
28oz Salsa (mild or medium depending on the brand and how "zippy" you want it - by the way, zippy is a family cooking term haha)
2 cups water
3 cans consomme (I have been using 3 beef bouillon cubes and 3 cups of water - much cheaper!!!)
1 can tomato soup
4 carrots, chopped
3 celery stalks, chopped
1/2 cup pearled barley
salt & pepper to taste (I only use 1/2 to 3/4 tsp each)

Simmer covered for at least 2 hours

This is a great recipe for using what you have. I often through in a couple handfuls of frozen peas or a package of frozen mixed veggies just to change it a bit!
