Mark 15

Scripture

Mark 15 blueletterbible

This chapter has so much, it is so rich, so today I will look at just one verse.
verse 38 And the curtain in the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.

Observation

I think that the importance of this little verse can easily be overlooked. The Jewish Temple has the room called the Most Holy Place. This room can only be entered once a year, on the Day of Atonement, and then only by the High Priest to make a sacrifice for the forgiveness of all the sins of the people. The people did not have access to God, nor could they have a relationship with Him, it had to be done through the High Priest.

So when Jesus became our sacrifice, the final sacrifice, this room was no longer needed. Jesus is our High Priest, and through Him we reach God. Jesus is our final sacrifice, through Him all of our sins are forgiven.

I read in a commentary that it was also important that the curtain was torn from the top to the bottom, signifying that it was God allowing us in.

Application

As I learn more about the Bible, I find that there are so many pieces that are so rich. One verse can lead in several wonderful directions. It doesn't matter if I read the whole Bible in one year - it matters that I am studying and learning from one verse at a time. I truly learning that my understanding of the Old Testament will always point fuller understanding of Jesus in the New Testament.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for your amazing plan of salvation. Thank you for helping me to see the importance of understanding the Old Testament so that I can more fully appreciate and understand the importance of Jesus in my life.
