Mark 4:1-34

I started the SOAP method of Bible study in the middle of Mark and Psalms. I am now going to add my notes from my written journal for the beginning chapters of both books so that the entire books are in this blog.

Scripture

Mark 4:1-34

Prayer

My chaotic routines are a barrier to finding peace. Help me to create meaningful routines for my family so that they also guide them to you.

Summary

Parable of the sowing seeds

  • the seed is the Word
  • Path - satan comes and takes away the Word
  • Rocky Places - hear the Word but have no root and they quickly fall away
  • Thorns - evil things and desires of the world choke out the Word
  • Good Soil - hear the Word, accept it, produce fruitfully

Parable of the Lamp

  • the light is to be in the open, we see by the light
  • we open ourselves to be able to see

Parable of the growing seed

  • this is about the Kingdom of God
  • a seed is planted, it continues to grow, it ripens, and is ready to be harvested
  • our spiritual growth can be related to the growth of a seed

Parable of the mustard seed

  • the smallest seed can become the largest plant
  • something small and insignificant can grow and develop to large proportions

Application

We need to be rooted in the Word to grow spiritually. Sharing even the smallest bit of Gospel can grow in someone's heart.
